It happened casually enough, even after years of paying close attention to my body. A slow ache that would go away with miles soon became a dull nag that would carry the entire way. A couple treatments later and the problem seemed to be solved, tendinitis! I cautiously paid attention to advice and eased back the miles to heal. Unfortunately, that was the wrong move. A week later, with the vision of running deserted Bahamian beaches, the news was delivered – talus stress fracture. MRI or no MRI, the healing would be the same – 8 to 12 agonizing weeks. Frankly, these were weeks I didn’t have time for with Gorges 100k, Superior 50k, Black Hills, and Leadville 100. I had plans, this set back wasn’t among them.
