My ankle still feels fairly totaled, so writing articles about trail running seems quite funny, well at least if racing were referenced. Truth be told, I think my body is simply done running long miles after years of running roads and previously accumulated football injuries. I've come to peace with that and have enjoyed a fully healthy season of cycling races and bike commuting without a single twinge. That alone is motivation to continue racing mountain bikes and close trail running, when it pertains to racing.
Even with that being the case, I still use trail running as a way to connect with the outdoors, introduce my daughter to adventure, and see new places at a slower pace. I've even verified that the Thule travels well off the beaten trail, even if it takes a bit more work. Venturing off the road never disappoints. I'd urge you to do the same this fall, whether your trip is a walk/jog, shuffle, or full blown sprint. It's a hell of a lot better than pounding city pavement, dodging cars and tight jean'ed hipsters pedaling single speeds (*gasp*).
If that seems intimidating, or like too much drive time, check out my article over at Fitsok for a few new ideas. Just don't take my advice when it comes to training for trail races - then you'll blow up your body spectacularly!
